The mission of Women's Spirituality and Fellowship is to provide the women of Asylum Hill Congregational Church opportunities for spiritual growth and support, and for building relationships with one another. All women of the church are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings and activities.
Throughout the year, the there are evening events that are inspirational, entertaining and thought-provoking times for fellowship and are of interest to the women in the community. In the past year these events have featured authors who have shared their work and led a time of reflection and conversation. All are welcome!
The women’s annual retreat, hosted by the Women’s Spirituality and Fellowship Committee, is scheduled for the early part of the year and is held in a peaceful, tranquil setting (most recent retreats were held on beautiful Enders Island in Mystic, CT). The retreat begins with a welcoming group dinner on Friday evening and ends on Sunday morning after an intimate communion service – and the wonderful time in between is an opportunity for restoration and renewal, a time to reconnect with old friends and connect with new ones. The group activities as well as the opportunity for time alone, if one chooses, encourage exploration and reflection in a safe, caring, and loving atmosphere. As one attendee so aptly described the most recent retreat, “The Enders Island retreat was all about laughter, fun, creative activities, spirituality and the celebration of the amazing strength and courage of women - I can’t wait for next year’s retreat!”
The annual advent retreat provides an opportunity for women to come together for an afternoon of relaxation, reflection, sharing and prayer in the midst of the busy Advent season. Themes are liturgically appropriate for the pre-Christmas season, with special consideration given to women's interests and concerns. Activities include drama, music, art and craft projects, prayer and small and large group discussion. This annual event is held at the church in late November/early December on a weekend afternoon. There is no cost to attend the event, and childcare is provided. Women of all ages are encouraged to attend!
The Annual Spring Tea is held each year when a member graciously opens her home and garden to all the women of the AHCC community. It is a time to relax and enjoy light refreshments, to catch up with old friends and to get to know new ones. This is an event with no other agenda than fellowship – a long and valued tradition among the women of the church.
