Current News

It seems we are bombarded daily with tragic news from around the globe, and though there was no 24-hour news cycle, life was not very different in Jesus’ day. His birth in the stable occurred during a truly dreadful and most unstable time in history. The bloody and paranoid reign of Herod, who ruled through tactics of mass terror and widespread surveillance, was coming to an end. And into this world, a child was born to frightened, yet faithful parents. We know now that this child would change the world. During Advent, we take time to contemplate and celebrate the hope, peace, joy, and love, that the birth of the Christ brings to a still weary world.

So many of us are rushing around, running errands, attending parties and celebrations, and all that comes with the holidays. There are few of us looking for “one more thing” to add to our calendar. Yet, each of those events calls for planning and preparation, and somehow, we manage to fit it all in. As we enter this season of expectation and joy, we must remember to take time to prepare our hearts for Christmas, by taking a moment (or two or three), to stop, breathe, say a prayer of hope, of peace, of joy, and of love.

For unto us a child is born ... and his name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
