As of Friday, January 11, I will be out of the office, disconnected from technology, and stepping away from my pastoral duties at the church for two weeks. The reason for this short break is two-fold:
I don’t have to tell any of you about the hard work that we have engaged in over the last year and a half. We dug deep, engaged in difficult and holy conversations, reflected on past mistakes, envisioned a new tomorrow, and are now in the process of creating exciting plans for the future. And honestly, I need some time and space to rest and rejuvenate my body, mind, and spirit before I can really begin in earnest to serve among you as your senior minister.
Secondly, I want to create some definition between what our relationship has been for the last 13 years, and a new day with this new role. I think this is a healthy practice and will serve us well.
While I am away, I ask for your prayers, as I will keep you in mine. And please get ready to celebrate on Sunday, January 27 as we worship together at the Service of Installation in our sanctuary!
Please know that the clergy, staff, and lay leaders are planning for my brief time away and that appropriate coverage is in place. Revs. Gary Smith and Mia Douglas will be preaching on January 13 and 20 and Rev. Erica Avena, in conjunction with Camille Boyd, AHCC’s Caring Coordinator, will be making sure that pastoral care needs of this congregation are attended to. I am grateful for amazing colleagues who make this possible!
Beloveds, I am looking forward to this short break but, even more, I look forward to coming back to AHCC and moving into the future with you all!
God’s blessings be upon us all, for our church’s best days are truly today and tomorrow.
