Learning & Serving

1st Sunday of each month (October - June) -  Prepare 100 sandwhiches and cookies for Loaves and Fishes

2nd Sunday of each month (October – April) - BINGO at Betty Knox Apartments

Loaves and Fishes is a local soup kitchen that, in addition to providing meals, hands out a sandwhich and cookie to each guest as they leave so that they have their next meal.  The AHCC youth have committed to providing 100 sandwhiches and cookies each month.  Usually, the middle school youth group makes the sandwhiches (using sunbutter and jelly) during their usual time and the high school youth group bakes the cookies during their usual time.

Betty Knox Apartments is a low-income housing facility for adults with special needs. A small group of confirmands leads the residents in a few rounds of BINGO. The group meets in Drew Hall at 9:15am, and then goes with an adult volunteer to the facility, returning to AHCC at 10:45 a.m.

Over the past seven years, volunteers from AHCC have been working with non-profit developer NINA (Northside Institutions Neighborhood Alliance) to build and rehab some beautiful historic houses in the neighborhood around the church.
