Amid all the chaos and the busyness of the "holiday" season, it is sometimes hard to remember exactly what it is we anticipate - what it is we really hope for. However, we must stay awake to what really matters - God among us! Rev. Erica Thompson preaching.
6:00 p.m. Advent Wreath-making and Potluck Dinner Often the time leading to Christmas can be filled with stress and anxiety. The Advent wreath, strategically placed in the center of one's table, can be a wonderful tool to help keep us centered on the anticipation of the Christ child coming into our lives. Join church members for dinner and wreath making - materials provided.
Wednesday, December 4, 7:00 p.m. First Wednesday Worship. Join us for a high spirited, Gospel-inspired celebration of the Christmas message as our magnificent soloists raise their voices in praise! Dan Campolieta will lead the band, made up of some of the finest musicians in Hartford. Come ready to clap your hands, open your hearts, and say "Amen!" As with all Wednesday Night worship services, a church dinner will be offered at 6:00 p.m. Rev. Donna Manocchio preaching.
Thursday, December 5, 7:00 p.m., Service of Remembrance and Healing. There are times in our lives when the holiday season brings more sadness to our hearts than joy. Join church members and friends for this special and meaningful service in the chapel. Leadership is provided by our clergy, staff and Stephen Ministers.
Saturday, December 7, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Women's Advent Retreat. Through fellowship and conversation, storytelling and writing, walking the labyrinth and creative expression, we will explore how the biblical journey of Jesus' birth intersects with our own Advent journey.

We welcome Rev. Steve Camp from our sister church, Faith Congregational, to the pulpit of AHCC while Rev. Matthew Laney preaches at Faith. Our choir will offer two special Christmas anthems from the American Spiritual tradition.

Third Sunday of Advent: Joy
9:00 a.m. While visiting her cousin Elizabeth, Mary proclaims, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!" As we prepare for the birth of Christ, how can we magnify God's grace and joy? Rev. Donna Manocchio preaching.
10:15 a.m. Children's Christmas Pageant. And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. (Luke 2:6-7). Join us for the retelling of Jesus' birth through the eyes and voices of our Spirit Hill children. The Children's Christmas Pageant is a wonderful time to once again reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and the coming of the Christ child.

The Fourth Sunday of Advent: Love
Christmas Music Sunday! The Bible tells us Jesus had two daddies, and almost lost one before he was born. Come hear the story of Joseph's remarkable transformation from filing for divorce to becoming a devoted husband and the earthly father of Jesus. Our choir and full orchestra will be featured throughout the service with carols of the season and the world premiere of a new carol by local composer Albert Hurwit. Rev. Matt Laney preaching.

8:00 & 11:00 p.m.: Traditional candlelight services with choir and instrumentalists. Rev. Matt Laney explores God's unpredictable, astounding love in the wonder and mystery of the incarnation.

Tuesday, December 31, Watch Night Worship, 5:30 p.m.
This casual, candlelit service provides us the opportunity to review the year that has passed, and prepare our hearts and spirits for the year ahead. Join us for singing, praying, scripture and fellowship. We will end the evening outside, gathered around a small bonfire, with refreshments and conversation.

For over thirty years, the Children’s Christmas Store has given the church’s youngest members a unique opportunity to experience the joys of giving in a non-commercial and God-centered environment. CFMC members and volunteers assemble an inventory of modestly priced gifts (ranging from $0.50-$5.00), wrap the gifts, and transform the Twichell Room into a very special, kids only “Christmas Store.”

Step Up Step Out (SUSO) is partnering with Moms Demand Action to host an Interfaith worship service. One year ago, many of us were awakened to our society’s long-standing problem of gun violence by the tragedy in Newtown. Many of us were silent about the problem of gun violence before last year.
